Welcome to Our Griot. We want to take a moment to share with you why we began this project and also reflect on our work this year. We are grateful for your interest in and support of our collective movement.
When 2020 began, we could never have imagined how this year would unfold. We saw the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the alarming resurgence of racial injustice and civil uprisings. We heard the embryonic framing of new narratives of American history and felt compelled to develop a medium to capture, record and preserve that history from our perspective: a very different narrative than that which we were taught.
