MISSION
The mission of Our Griot is to capture, record, memorialize, archive and share the rich history of our ancestors while recognizing the indelible impact we made on our families, communities, schools, universities and the establishment of the United States of America. Our historical narratives will reflect the gamut of artists, scientists, inventors and, in equal measure, parents, grandparents, teachers, ministers and neighbors. We are united by our shared history, which is reflected in the melanin of our skin. We will develop an inclusive curriculum to inspire our youth today and for future generations.
VISION
The vision for Our Griot encompasses a multi-media approach to record and memorialize our collective history and stories. We will establish and maintain an accessible video archive and complimented by reading materials for K-12 audiences to include interactive student workbooks and teaching manuals scaffolded to appropriate age/grade levels. The materials will be culturally sensitive and reflect and affirm positive images for our children, families and communities while reinforcing our very rich histories.
PHILOSOPHY
For far too long, our history, language and culture in this country have been diminished, devalued and erased. Our Griot will establish a repository to archive our many contributions to our families, schools, churches and commmunites enhanced by memoralizing the many unique cultural, artistic and scientific efforts.
